When it comes to anti-aging and skin rejuvenation, there is nothing like Fraxel laser therapy. Working below the skin’s surface from the top down, Fraxel Laser Treatments only work on targeted areas, allowing for focused and effective results. Fraxel light energy stimulates your skin’s natural collagen, rejuvenating skin cells below the surface to help smooth the creases and pockets that cause wrinkles and scars. This highly-targeted treatment has the ability to completely renew skin without the use of general anesthesia or extensive downtime.
What is Fraxel®?
Considered one of the most exciting advancements in skin rejuvenation, Fraxel lasers use thousands of tiny beams of light to establish microscopic treatment zones that treat only a predetermined percentage of skin while leaving normal surrounding skin to help with the healing process. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire surface of the skin were treated at once. The laser extinguishes old, damaged skin cells while simultaneously preserving normal healthy skin. These microscopic wounds trigger your body’s natural healing process, stimulating the production of new collagen, resulting in a smoother, more rejuvenated, younger appearing skin.
Safe and effective, the Fraxel laser is cleared by the FDA for treating acne scars, wrinkles, melasma, irregular skin texture, surgical scars, sun spots and age spots. And best of all, Fraxel is even effective on delicate areas, such as the neck, chest, and hands.
How does Fraxel work?
Using microscopic treatment zones allows certain Fraxel® laser treatments to penetrate deeper into the dermis than traditional lasers. This deeper penetration helps to stimulate collagen production, helping to make the skin appear more youthful and counteract the effects of aging. Typically, 3-5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart are recommended for most optimal results. Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the procedure and topical anesthesia is applied to minimize discomfort. There is typically some swelling and redness after the 30 minute treatment. The swelling subsides within 48 hours and the redness fades over a few days.
Can I do Fraxel with other cosmetic treatments?
Absolutely! Botox often improves the Fraxel results because it prevents you from squinting and frowning during the healing process. Fillers like Restylane, Juvederm and Sculptra are often used 1-2 weeks after treatment for maximum results. However, each treatment plan is fully customized based on your particular skin type and long-term goals.
The results of treatment are both immediate and progressive. Soon after the treatment, the surface of your skin will feel softer, look brighter and show more even tone. The next 3 to 6 months will bring more improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to heal. Stimulation of new collagen growth is permanent; the new collagen is generated in the skin which remains for a lifetime. The duration of the positive effects of Fraxel® Laser Treatments depend entirely on the type of condition treated and how you subsequently care for your skin. Certainly, excessive exposure to sunlight can cause formation of new melanin, resulting in new brown spots. Wearing a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen daily is highly recommended.
