Kybella: The Double Chin Eliminator

A crisp jawline is a sign of youth and beauty, while a double chin can make you look older and heavier, no matter your age and weight.  This area is often extremely resistant to diet and exercise; until recently liposuction or a face and/or neck lift had been the only option for removal of this stubborn fat. Kybella, an FDA approved treatment to slim down the underside of the jaw, is now available, eliminating the need for liposuction or other invasive surgical procedures.  Here's what you need to know:

What is Kybella?

Kybella® is a man-made form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring material found in our bodies that helps breakdown and absorb fat.  Kybella is the first and only FDA approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe submental fat (fat below the chin).

How does Kybella Work?

Through a series of injections in strategic locations under the chin, Kybella permanently dissolves and destroys fat cells.  After treatment, the fat is cleared out by the body's natural metabolic process; the fat cells are gone for good.

Kybella must be given in a series of up to six treatments in order to be effective.  Each treatment session, lasting approximately twenty minutes, should be spaced no less than one month apart.  Many people have had visible results after two to four sessions.  Your healthcare provider will determine how many sessions you need, depending on your needs.  Lecada's medical professionals tailor a specific plan of care to address each unique patient.

A topical numbing agent (Lidocaine) and/or an ice pack is used during treatment for the patient's comfort.  Typically, the mild discomfort patients have reported on initial treatment subsides with each subsequent treatment.
